First day of school part 3

Parent Pick Up

So its 3:05 time to pick up Landon from school. The first day should have gone great. They probably didn’t do much just got to know each other and maybe did a little school work. His school lets out a 3:05 I thought if I left right at that time I would miss the rush of all the other crazy parents trying to pick their kids up from school on the first day. Boy was I wrong! I pull down the street that my son’s school is located on. It’s a 2 way street however, some parents have decided to make it a 3 lane street causing a cluster f**K! No one knows what they’re doing or where to go and I am stuck in the middle of it. One of the school buses is trying to pull out in front of me but with all the traffic in the street and the big ass truck I’m driving she can’t move and I can’t back up to let her out. So finally the cars start to move and I’m able to make my way to the parent pick up line.

Once Landon gets in the car I ask him how his day was and he tells me it was the worst day ever! I asked him why it was the worst day ever and he replies with I was there forever, like a half hour. I said Landon you were there for almost 7 hours. He says yeah that’s what I meant. So then I continue to grill him on why he had such a bad day. He finally tells me that one of our neighborhood kids is in his class and had decided to sit next to him but that he was picking on him all day. Poking him with a pencil and taking his stuff off his desk.  As soon as we got home from school I made a phone call to his teacher, this mom doesn’t mess around. She said that she had noticed that too and had planned on moving the other student away from Landon. She said that Landon was very good that day, which gave me a huge sigh of relief. Thank goodness for that and good boys!

Did your first day of school result in a call to a teacher? Mine sure did, but I’d rather be on top of things before there’s even a problem!

First day of school part 2

Wake Up It's The First Day Of School!

We had the scare the day before school started with the chicken pox and I am glad that’s not what it was! Well the night before we have to start the routine; dinner, shower, snack, brush your teeth, and get in bed all before 8:30 pm and its still daylight here in Arizona at that time.

So we all get to bed early.  When I woke up Landon was already awake at 6:15am and watching TV in my room. I half awake ask him if he is ready for his first day of school to start. He then tells me that he has a fever. It’s the first day of school and he is already pulling the I’m sick card? Ugh. I tell him calmly that it’s the first day of school he doesn’t have a fever and he is going to school. He then say “oh mom I have a toothache.” I just ignore him this time because I know he is just making stuff up to stay home. I finally decide to get up and do my morning things before getting his stuff packed up for the day. I go out back to check the pool since we had had a storm during the night. Landon follows me out back and says “Oh mom, I think I am going to puke!”  He then pretends to puke like 20 times.  I just shook my head and told him again, “Landon you’re going to school today.”
We came back in and I packed his lunch and then got all his new school supplies out and then he was excited to go back to school when he seen all the cool stuff I had gotten crayons, markers, erasers, etc. So then he gets on his new clothes, new shoes, and belt and he is ready to go.
Now it’s time to decide what to have for breakfast so early in the morning. Landon says he doesn’t want anything and I argue with him to eat something because it’s going to be a while till lunch. I said you can have fruit, cereal, anything as long as it is not junk. He says ok I will have a pickle.
Really a pickle? Yep a pickle!
Is my kid the only kid that eats crazy stuff like pickles for breakfast?
MMMM.....Which one looks good to you?

4 dots, 8 dots, 20 dots, can it be the chicken pox?

So it’s the afternoon before my son is to start 2ndgrade. He comes out of his room with his shirt off and I notice a few red spots on his chest and a few on his arms. Now if you know me, you know I overreact about everything.   First thing I think is he probably has the chicken pox, semi joking and semiserious. So I get on the computer and Google images of what chicken pox look like. I am convinced he doesn’t have them. I also looked at the symptoms. His spots did not have fluid in them and they weren’t itchy, he didn’t have a fever or a sore throat. Mind you he also had both his chicken pox vaccines and he actually had the chicken pox when he was under a year old. Ok so I am just over reacting.

Later in the evening I am at my neighbor’s house telling her that I thought Landon may have had the chicken pox but that I think I was over reacting.  So then Landon comes over and I go to show her the spots and they are all over the back of his arms and there are more on his stomach. I begin to freak out because she has a little boy that’s only 2 years old and now my son who possibly has chicken pox has exposed her baby. What a crappy friend I am to bring my kid over with chicken pox.
It’s now 7:10 pm on a Sunday night and the only urgent care that is open is about 20 minutes away and the wait is over an hour and forty five minutes. Well Curt, my boyfriend, and I decided that we would just wait until morning to see if the spots were gone and if not I would just take him to the doctor in the morning before school.

Curt looks at me and says, “Why do you look so stress out and red?” I said, “Are you kidding me? School is starting tomorrow and not only should he not miss school but I don’t think I can handle him home for another 2 weeks! I have been so excited that school is starting and now the thought that he may have to be home another 2 weeks is freaking me the F out!” We both start laughing. I couldn’t believe that the red spots were getting worse as the night went on. I thought for sure he was going to have to stay home with the chicken pox for another two weeks.

When he woke up this morning and I quickly began examining his body.  The red bumps and spots were gone, poof disappeared overnight.  So guess what, he was off to his first day off school without the chicken pox!

Just one of those days

Now let’s get real for a moment. We all have those days when our kids are driving us just plain crazy and you’re being pushed to the edge. How do you get through your day when it seems like everything is falling apart? Now that’s a magical question and if you had a perfect answer I would have already read your book.
I’ve had days that I’ve hid in my room and just let the water works fall and yea it helps for a minute to let the emotion go but crying in hiding is not solving the problem. Some days you just have to say to hell with it, it’s not going to be a good day so let’s just get through it and start over tomorrow. I’ve had days where my kids are screaming and fighting with eachother punching and hitting. The crying and screaming is more than I can take, what do I do? I throw my kids in the car buckled into boosters and car seats and make an adventure. A car ride to nowhere with no point sometimes has turned some of the worst days into, well, not the best days but bearable days.
Sometimes you just have to think outside of the box to find a solution. So what your dishes have to wait, they're still going to be there when you're done. My mother in law once told me that sometimes you have to put things on the back burner and focus on what is in front of you. Housework is never ending and if you can't get to it there's nothing wrong with waiting until you can. Find a park, take a drive, or just fly by the seat of your pants. Getting out of the house and a change of scenery can work wonders for some.
